India’s cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, ended his three-year drought without a century in Test cricket during the fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The achievement was met with thunderous cheers from the crowd and an outpouring of support on social media.
Kohli’s slump had seen his average drop to a career low, causing him considerable discomfort. His 186-run knock not only broke his century drought but also helped India surpass Australia’s first innings total and secure a lead, adding to his satisfaction.
Former India captain and current head coach, Rahul Dravid, questioned Kohli about the pressures of not scoring a Test century for such a long time. Kohli admitted that he had become obsessed with reaching the three-figure mark, but also stated that he was not content with scoring only 40-45 runs.

Kohli’s 28th Test hundred and 75th overall propelled him past Virender Sehwag, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Mohammad Azharuddin, but he emphasized that milestones were not his primary focus. Despite the pressure of constantly being reminded of the need to score a century, Kohli acknowledged that such complications were part of the beauty of playing cricket for a long time.
