Mumbai Indians (MI) bounced back from their underwhelming start in the IPL 2023 season with a five-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. MI chased down a stiff target of 186 runs, with Impact Substitute Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan giving them a good start. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma then kept the momentum going with a solid partnership, while Tim David provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 24 off 13 deliveries.
Earlier, KKR opener Venkatesh Iyer scored his maiden IPL century, smashing 104 off 51 balls after coming in to bat at 0-1. However, KKR struggled in the death overs and could only add 45 runs in the final five overs, finishing at 185-6. Despite Iyer’s heroic knock, MI’s solid batting display ensured they secured their second consecutive victory in the tournament.
