In a crucial IPL 2023 match held in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Delhi Capitals kept their playoff hopes alive by beating Gujarat Titans by five runs. Ishant Sharma used his experience to defend 12 runs in the final over, restricting Gujarat to 125/6 after they chased a target of 131 runs.
Rahul Tewatia gave a glimmer of hope to Gujarat by smashing a hat-trick of sixes off Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over but failed to repeat the same against Ishant, getting caught by Rilee Rossouw for 20(7) inside the 30-yard-circle. Delhi Capitals had made a strong start by reducing Gujarat to 32/4 in the seventh over.
However, Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar added 62 runs for the fifth wicket, though at a slow rate. Hardik remained unbeaten on 59(53), but Manohar was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed for 26(33). Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s brilliant spell of four wickets for just 11 runs in his full quota rocked the Delhi top order, who lost half their side in the first five overs.
Axar Patel and Aman Khan added 50 runs for the sixth wicket, and Aman also stitched another 50-run stand with Ripal Patel, who was dismissed in the final over for 23(13).
