David Miller, the South African cricketer, will not be playing in the opening match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). GT, who won the championship in their debut season, will face CSK, the four-time IPL champions, on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Miller, who was the third-highest run-scorer for GT in IPL 2022, will miss the match due to his commitment to the South African team.
Miller also missed the first ODI of South Africa’s series against the West Indies as he was returning from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at that time. However, Cricket South Africa wants all their players to be available for the crucial two-match series against the Netherlands, which can help the Proteas secure a spot in the ODI World Cup. As a result, South African players will join their respective IPL teams after the Netherlands series ends on April 3. Miller expressed his disappointment at missing the opening IPL match, but he also considers playing for South Africa an honor.
Miller has played 105 matches in the IPL and scored 2455 runs. He has represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in addition to GT. GT, led by Hardik Pandya, purchased Miller for INR crore at the IPL auction. Although Miller will miss the CSK vs. GT opener, he will join the Gujarat team for their second IPL 2023 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 4 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
