Kane Williamson Creates History with Double Century in Second Test against Sri Lanka

Kane Williamson, the former captain of the New Zealand Test team, is on a roll with his exceptional performances. In the first Test against Sri Lanka, he played an outstanding knock of 121 runs off 194 balls, which led to India securing a place in the World Test Championship final. In the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka, he continued his impressive form and scored 215 runs off 296 balls in the first innings at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. This remarkable innings made him the first New Zealand player to reach the milestone of 8000 runs in Test cricket, with a total of 8124 runs from 164 innings in 94 Tests. His Test batting average of 54.89 is even better than the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.

Williamson also equaled Virat Kohli’s record of scoring 28 centuries in Test cricket. Virat had scored his 28th Test century earlier this week during the fourth Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With six double centuries in Test cricket, Williamson has now equaled the record of Sachin Tendulkar and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting of scoring six 200-plus scores in the five-day format of the game. Despite stepping down from the role of New Zealand Test captain in December last year, Williamson continues to dominate with his incredible performances on the field.
