Reliance Jio has announced that the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) will be available for streaming on JioCinema. The IPL 2023 season will kick off on March 31 with a match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, and for the first time, viewers will be able to watch the matches online in 4K resolution (UltraHD). Previously, only those who paid for a subscription to Disney+ Hotstar in India could watch the IPL matches.
Telecom operators such as Jio and Airtel offer prepaid plans that include Disney+ Hotstar subscriptions, enabling viewers to watch IPL matches without paying an additional fee. JioCinema will offer a Multicam feature, similar to the FIFA World Cup 2022, allowing users to switch between different camera angles during all 74 matches. JioPhone users will be able to watch IPL 2023 for free, as the feature phone supports JioCinema.
On mobile devices, the JioCinema app will display statistics such as the score and pitch heat map, while viewers watching on a big screen will see the information alongside the match. JioCinema users will be able to watch the matches in 12 different languages, including English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, and Bhojpuri, among others. When switching between languages, the commentary, statistics, and graphics will change accordingly.
Reliance is also expected to unveil its highly anticipated Jio Media Cable accessory, which will allow viewers with non-smart TVs lacking HDMI ports to stream matches using their phones. Rumors suggest that the company is also working on an affordable virtual reality headset called JioDive, as well as virtual reality glasses known as JioGlass. These devices may enable users to experience IPL matches in a 360-degree format.
