Australia defeats India in 3rd Test to secure place in WTC final

Australia secured their place in the World Test Championship final with an emphatic nine-wicket victory over India in the third Test match. The match lasted just over two days and was played on a rank turner. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne led Australia to victory after they lost Usman Khawaja in the first over. The Indian team were bowled out for 163 in their second innings, leaving Australia with a target of only 76 runs. This win was particularly satisfying for Australia, who had been beaten in the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar trophy within three days.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon played a key role in the victory, taking eight wickets in the Indian second innings on day two. This was only India’s third loss in Tests at home in the last decade, and they had limited Australia to 197 in the first innings, despite being bowled out for 109. However, Lyon proved to be too much for the Indian batters, who were unable to put up a fight in their second innings. India still lead the four-match series 2-1, having won in Nagpur and New Delhi.
